The Problem

Challenge

Movie lovers in India want to watch films together with friends remotely, but existing watch-party solutions are clunky browser extensions tied to specific platforms. There's no native social cinema experience — no way to host a movie room, choose between synchronized or solo viewing, and pay only for what you actually watch instead of committing to a monthly subscription. Content creators who own movies on Google Drive have no way to monetize their libraries. The Indian market needs a pay-per-minute model that makes premium content accessible at Rs 0.25-0.75/minute instead of Rs 199-499/month subscriptions.

Our Approach

Strategy

We built PlayFlix as a mobile-first social cinema platform with a striking dark red-and-black Netflix-inspired design. The homepage features a cinematic hero banner with featured movies, Popular in India and Trending This Week carousels, Bollywood/Hollywood/genre rows, Browse by Genre grid (Action, Comedy, Drama, Thriller, Romance, Horror, Sci-Fi, Family), and a Budget Friendly section starting at Rs 0.25/min. The Pay-Per-Minute billing system lets viewers choose their watch time with a slider (5/15/30/60 min or full movie) and see the exact cost in real-time before committing — 'No hard stop, you can continue watching beyond your selection.' Phone OTP authentication, wallet system with balance display, watch history with minutes watched and amount spent, watchlist, and a profile with Google Drive connection for hosts.

A production-grade social cinema platform with 19 pages — delivered end-to-end by TechZunction. The PPM billing model makes premium movies accessible at a fraction of subscription costs. Movie detail pages show synopsis, cast & crew, ratings, genre tags, views, and 'You Might Also Like' recommendations. The wallet system handles top-ups and real-time balance deduction during viewing. Watch history tracks every session with minutes watched and amount spent. The Google Drive integration lets hosts stream their movie libraries and earn revenue. Built with Next.js 15, React 19, Tailwind CSS 4, Vidstack for the video player, Ably for real-time sync between viewers, Framer Motion for animations, and Zustand for state management. Deployed on Vercel with mobile-first responsive design.
